The Upnor

The Upnor

On March 29th 1922 men of the Southern Division brought off a coup that helped arm the Republicans at the time of the Civil War. A vessel called the Upnor was loaded with warlike stores which were to be shipped from Haulbowline to Woolwich, Arsenal. The staff of the first brigade decided to capture the cargo for the Republicans. It was decided that Ballycotton would be the unloading point.
