Fr. Richard Thornhill is responsible for the Eucharistic (Corpus Christi) Procession, which still goes on, He raised funds for the mosaics behind altars in Ballycotton and Shanagarry. He used those funds also to cement the approach to the churches and to build steps where needed.

 

Canon Denis Walshe, Church Road, Ballycotton was ordained in 1935. He served in Bitterne, Southampton from 1943 until his retirement in 1991. He came back to Ballycotton and stayed there until his death on the 1st of January 1999.

Fr. Thomas McGrath was born in Ballyandreen, Ballycotton. He was ordained as a priest in 1936 for Ross Diocese.

 

The Daunt Rock Rescue

On the 11th of February 1936 the Mary Stanford was called out to the Daunt Rock lightship. It wasn't expected that the Coxswain would launch her, but he did. They left at 7am on Tuesday 11th and came back at 12.45pm on Thursday 14th. They were out for 73 hours and had 3 hours sleep. They rescued 8 people.
