Fr. Michael Rea served as curate in Ballycotton from 1909 until his death in 1915. He is the only person buried in the Church grounds.
The Rev. Nathaniel Smith was the curate in Ballycotton from 1915 to 1916. He was born in Tullough, Cloyne.

Brother James "Sonny" Roche from Ballycotton entered the Patrician Order in 1927. He taught in Patrician schools in Galway and later Mallow, where he was Superior. An uncle of his, Brother James Whelehan of Church Road, was a member of the Presentation Order, who spent most of his teaching life in Canada.
World War I |
In 1914 war broke out in Europe. Many Irish men, including some from Ballycotton, joined the British Army and Navy. Some thought it would be a great adventure and others joined because they had no work at home. Very few returned. Not many were lucky enough to survive.

Tadorna |
On the 15th November 1911, the Tadorna ran into trouble 5 miles from Ballycotton. It was on its way from Rotterdam to Cork.
The weather conditions were very bad, but the lifeboat named T.P.Hearne still went out. It got to the Tadorna with the help of a trawler. They rescued 9 out of a total of 21. Richard Harding, who was the coxswain, was awarded with a silver medal.
The Lusitania |
The R.M.S Lusitania was launched in the river "Clyde" on June 16th 1906. Her maiden voyage took place on September 7th 1907.
On May 1st 1915, the R.M.S. Lusitania left New York. On May 7th, a German U-boat torpedoed the Lusitania just off the coast of Ireland. She sank within 18 minutes of being hit. 1,195 people died on board. America did not immediately declare war on Germany, but this did occur in April 1917.
Rescue |
On May 5th 1917, S.S. Lodes of Middlesborough was in trouble. The Ballycotton Lifeboat went out to its rescue and saved 2 people.
