We were elated wben our three resident hens arrived in school in April 2018. Each class has responsibilty and we wait in anticipation to see how many eggs have been laid. First and second class feed the hens and collect the eggs on a Monday. Junior and Senior Infants collect the eggs on a Tuesday and Thursday. Third and Fourth class look after them on a Wednesday and Fifth and Sixth class take care of them on a Friday. We are so fortunate and are thoroughly enjoying such a rewarding experience.
We have a small area outside where we planted potatoes, radishes and beetroot. We have also planted a variety of vegetables and fruit in the Junior and Senior Infant classroom. We are watering them daily and look forward to harvesting and eating our produce.
